I see you. I see you standing there by the counter feeling as if you're fading in.
I see the waiter talking to your daughter about your meal as if you weren't there, as if you're not capable of doing it yourself. I see you sitting there with your 40+ year old daughter, I see her 20 year old daughter and all the questions about you directed to your daughter. I see you uncomfortable. I see you sink into your chair small. I see the lines on your face. I see gray hair covering your head. I see you. I see your wisdom. I see your love. I see the beauty. I see your value. I see you.
To your daughter who notices the shift and wonders when it's her turn to sit even more unnoticed and faded. To her I say, I see you. I see you running crazy to juggle your life. I see you juggling your family's life using your car as an office while you shuffle kids to the next and wait. I see you juggling all the things overwhelmed, but always showing up for them with your best.
I see you. I see you & your juggling act into the next, trying to hold it all together, shifting in your position as daughter, to mom, to matriarch, still raising children.
I see you strong, always stepping up, staying strong, putting yourself last, forgetting to drink your water, forgetting to eat right, putting you off "until you have time" and then you're just to tired. I see you. I see you giving your all. I know you. I was you. I am you. I will be you into the future.
